A Gender-Specific, Residential Expression of Multidimensional Family Therapy in the Treatment of Adolescent Substance Abuse

MDFT is emerging as a best practice in the treatment of adolescent substance abuse disorders. Successful expression of key tenets of the model results in powerful model of treatment that is easily adaptable to a gender specific environment. Addressing the multiple dimensions of an adolescent’s world, with an emphasis on strengthening the structure of the family, can result in healthy identity formation and interdependent family relationships that provide the backbone of a healthy structure for adolescents.
