If you’ve been keeping up with the True North Press Room, you’ve probably heard that we’re going to be part of a first-of-its-kind trauma treatment coalition focusing on the country’s first responders. We couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity to continue providing our public servants with the care and sense of community they need, when they need it most.
This coalition between the city of San Diego and Cigna healthcare allows first responders from anywhere in the country to receive residential and outpatient treatment from local treatment facilities as long as their insurance providers approve it. This program began two years ago in response to the limitations of healthcare for this segment of the community, and is a collaborative effort between San Diego’s Risk Management, Fire-Rescue and Police departments.
Several local news organizations have already taken note, including our very own CBS8! KUSI News has also run a series of stories like the one above featuring an interview with David Picone, the San Diego Fire-Rescue’s Health & Safety Officer.
This is an exciting time for True North, but this program is so much more than that. We feel it’s a big step forward in understanding and treating the trauma our firefighters, paramedics, police officers and other public servants experience every day while serving the public. If you or a loved one are a first responder who needs a helping hand, contact us at (760) 517-6544.
